Mushroom Mania (w/ Gouache)taught by Jinjer Markley
June 9, 2024 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Paint a forest floor full of fantastic fungi using Jinjer’s photos from her own mushroom foraging forays. As we trek through the woods (metaphorically), we’ll be learning how to handle gouache, and we’ll also journey into color theory, with a focus on that most mysterious of color properties: chroma.

Supplies:
Paint: (gouache, preferably traditional water-based gouache):
1) Any bright yellow, preferably fluorescent!
2) Any bright pink or red, preferably fluorescent!
3) Any bright blue, preferably fluorescent!
4) Any reddish or purplish earth-tone color, such as burnt umber
5) Any yellowish earth-tone color, such as yellow ochre
6) Any blueish neutral, such as Payne’s Grey
7) White
Paper:
Any watercolor paper 12” x 12” or smaller
- Optional: Gouache looks fabulous on black watercolor paper, or even toned mixed media paper. If you bring dark paper, you might also want to purchase an iridescent or interference watercolor, which also look amazing on dark paper.
- Optional: If you want to make a repeat pattern, as shown in the sample image, do the following:
- Purchase 300 lb watercolor paper.
- Cut your paper into two perfect rectangles the EXACT same size before class.
- Also bring artists’ tape at least 1.5” wide.
Brushes: Round #4, 5, or 6 for watercolor/water media
