IN PERSON

The instant you put two or more colors together, they interact: Sometimes boring colors enhance each other, while other, perfectly lovely colors look terrible together. Some colors seem to totally change once you add them to a painting or design. In the ‘60s, Josef Albers created a set of exercises designed to help you understand how this interaction of color works…if you could understand Josef Albers, that is! His instructions often make the exercises more confusing than illuminating.

Enter Fritz Horstman’s new book “Interacting with Color: A Practical Guide to Josef Albers’s Color Experiments.”

In this book club/ workshop, we follow Horstman’s easy-to-understand instructions to do classic Albers experiments. Instructor Jinjer Markley will help you put each experiment into the context of Color Theory, and guide students to interpret our discoveries in ways that are applicable to our own creative practices.

Part 2 – Basic Color Illusions: Play with color to fool the eye. If you are joining this series for the first time, it is recommended that you attempt the exercises on pages 8 and 29-35, and to familiarize yourself with the definitions on page 122 before the first class.

This is part 2 of a 4 part series that unpacks the whole book. The next sessions will be in summer and fall.

Save The Date!
