Doodle Like a Master taught by Suzann Beck

January 14 @ 10:00 am 5:00 pm

Art teachers tell you to sketch every day to improve your drawing, but what if your daily sketches and even doodling can help you improve your understanding of 3-D form and spatial perspective? Take this workshop and find out how! You’ll learn freehand drafting the Old Masters like Leonardo DaVinci used to create his inventions, and then apply your skills drawing everyday objects or constructions from your imagination.

Skills you’ll learn include:
• How to turn a square into a perfect circle and a 3D cube into a sphere
• How to draw an accurate ellipse
• 3D analysis and cross sections
• Linear perspective and shadow projection If the weather is nice, we’ll go outside and apply our skills to drawing buildings and the environment.

Ages 14 and up. Drawing experience suggested but not required. This workshop is appropriate for beginning to intermediate artists. Class will break for an hour midway.

About the artist: Whether painting a commissioned portrait, a figurative piece, or a “portrait” of a single rose, Suzann has the unique ability to capture the essence and spirit of a subject and combine it with masterful likeness. Her inspiration and passion comes from the classical old masters, and she is particularly influenced by the Russian painters of the 19th century. Intrigued and motivated by the depth and craft of masterworks hundreds of years old, Suzann works to understand classical methods and disciplines and leverage them with contemporary practices and sensibilities to create representational realism. Suzann Beck holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Moorhead State University, Moorhead MN, and studied portraiture with atelier-trained painter Judith Anthony, Plymouth, MN, and classical glazing technique portraiture with Jeffery Hurinenko, St. Paul, MN. Suzann serves as the Minnesota Ambassador for the Portrait Society of America, and teaches portrait painting and drawing classes in her Northeast Minneapolis studio and the Paramount Center for the Visual Arts, St. Cloud, MN. http://www.mnartists.org/suzannbeck
