VIRTUAL CLASS

In this immersive class we’ll be working with a limited six color palette of watercolor paint to explore color mixing, layering and brushwork. With lots of provided reference images we’ll begin to fill a sketchbook with a variety of subject matter.  You’ll be surprised at how much creative output you can achieve with a limited palette and some guidance. A quality watercolor sketchbook is the perfect place to play, hone your skills and record your progress. Homework is included to keep you creating!

SUPPLY LIST:

Watercolors: Pans or tubed color, any brand or combination of brands. My favorites are QoR (Golden), Holbein, Daniel Smith and Schmincke. You’ll have better success if you use a warm(w) and cool (c) color of the primaries.

YELLOW Suggested options: Lemon Yellow (c) , Hansa Yellow Lt (c), Aureolin (c), New Gamboge (w), Indian Yellow (w), Permanent Yellow (w)

RED Suggested options: Quin Magenta (c), Rose Madder (c), Quin Red Light (w), Pyrrol Scarlet (w)

BLUE suggested options: Cobalt Turquoise Light (w), French Ultramarine (w), Manganese Blue (w), Phthalo Blue GreenShade (c)

Optional and useful additions: Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Ivory Black, Titanium White

Palette(s): You’ll want plenty of mixing space! I’d suggest a palette to contain your colors (if working from tubes). A small enamel butchers tray or ceramic plate, tray or palette

Sketchbook(s): Your favorite watercolor sketchbook will do! Make sure you have room on your page for swatching, notes and art! Here are some of my favorites: Stillman & Birn Alpha (softcover 8×10) 150gsm Stillman & Birn Beta (softcover 8×10) 270gsm Global Art Hand Book Watercolor Journal, both weights are good, 5.5×8.25, 8.25sq or 8.25×10.5

Classes have a limited space available and some fill quickly. Decisions about whether to cancel a class or add another session are typically made one week prior to the start of a class. If a class you are interested in is full we will have a waiting list and will contact you if a space opens up. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment (fewer than 4 registrations) all registrations will be promptly refunded.
