Sfumato is a painting technique for softening the transition between colors and is one of the most important techniques of the Renaissance. We will use the principles of this technique to create an atmospheric pastel drawing. We will study the basic principles of composition, techniques, work with material application and learn how to create a landscape drawing using soft pastels. This is a beginner’s class and no experience is required.
Soft pastels supply list
- Set of soft pastels (with at least basic colors)
- Pastel paper (can be toned)
- Any pencil and eraser
- Blending stumps / tortillions
- Masking tape (to tape the paper to the surface if needed)
- Paper towels or cloth
- Smooth, sturdy surface to tape paper to (if needed)
