Mindfulness+Making (art) Series taught by Shannon Brunette and Kishori Koch

March 17, 2023 @ 4:00 pm 6:00 pm

$40.00 Includes some supplies.

IN PERSON CLASS

A new Monthly series co-taught by artist Shannon Brunette and yoga and meditation guide Kishori Koch harnesses the power of mindfulness to create artful beauty in the world.

In each workshop we will consider different artful processes alongside mindfulness techniques to create space for creativity–which is where the magic happens. Let your art and mindfulness be an inspired start to your weekend!

What you will need: an open mind, an open heart and a willingness to take a chance. Oh and a few art supplies–which we will share specific to each workshop.

MARCH CLASS: (IN PERSON)

Chance operations: Collaborative Creations. In this workshop we will explore the concept of Chance Operations, a method inspired by John Cage, alongside collaboration and mixed media experiments. Drawing will be the pathway to discovery and a way to unlock our creativity. We will co-create a single piece of artwork, as we play with layers of chance, beginning with observational drawing and moving toward abstraction. You will be guided through an interactive process, considering the chance that comes from limiting your palette or experimenting with wet and dry media combinations while introducing collage and other surprises. We will embody the role of the artist, the observer and the collaborator. As we move around our collective canvas, there will be moments to contribute and others to step back, pause and reflect. What is the next best move to make that advances our collective work? How can a mindful breath help you to bring balance to the composition? How do we work together to discover what’s missing and what’s working? How can we create chance and magic as one collective body? How can one’s mark unlock another’s? You will have the opportunity to take home an interconnected human artmaking experience to remember.

Suggested supplies: mixed media / wet media supplies you love with brushes, pencils, pens, crayons, markers and all your favorite easy to travel and share materials.

Provided supplies: One large sheet of Lenox 100, matte gel medium, glue brushes, other unique materials, collage scraps to share and water, etc.
