Inking + Shading Styles: How to Ink a Comic taught by Michael Kay

February 8 @ 3:00 pm 4:00 pm

$16.00

IN PERSON CLASS

In this lesson we will be discussing the various techniques used in comics to make the art style pop! We’ll go over the 5 basic shading styles and then practice using them in our own drawing exercises. Bring some pre-made pencil sketches for practice!

PREFERRED materials are a sketchbook and pencil. For the inking class I generally advise any material you feel comfortable using! For my personal personal recommendations I would suggest:  Micron Pigma, LePen, Staedler pens, Kuretake Zebra brush pen (personal favorite!!),and Sakura Pigma Sensei. A lot of the technique we’ll be covering usually involves pens but if anyone wants to bring a brush and ink they’re welcome to!

Classes have a limited space available and some fill quickly. Decisions about whether to cancel a class or add another session are typically made one week prior to the start of a class. If a class you are interested in is full we will have a waiting list and will contact you if a space opens up. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment (fewer than 4 registrations) all registrations will be promptly refunded.

Ticket Instruction: You must choose a quantity to activate “get tickets”. To pay for a class registration with a Wet Paint gift card, please call 651-698-6431

Michael Kay is an artist living in Minneapolis and an enjoyer of all things comics and cartoons! After a life-long obsession with manga, he began publishing his own Dark-Fantasy series “CABARIS” and spends his time creating gothic paintings and illustrations. Michael is passionate about character design and world-building, eager to teach others techniques to help in the creative process.

Michael Kay’s classes offer in-depth lectures and guides on the fundamentals of anatomy, character design, and creating comics. Together we will discuss these concepts and work through the basics and slowly build on each concept in detail, arriving at a stronger sense of creating and developing comics and sequential art.
