Embroidered Meditation Scrolls taught by Molly Anthony

January 4 @ 10:00 am 1:00 pm

$50.00 Includes some shared use supplies

IN PERSON

In a world of constant noise and over-commitment, it can be hard to find time to slow down. But it is also imperative for our well-being that we make time for ourselves and create ways to rest. In this class, we’ll explore the meditative practice of slow stitching to learn simple ways to establish moments of quiet in our lives. We’ll learn different basic embroidery stitches and discuss the power of repetition of these marks. These scrolls will not be completed in class but instead will provide the foundation for a self-care practice that can be incorporated into your daily life. However, once complete they become stunning pieces that can be displayed or referred to as a reminder to slow down and take care of ourselves.

Supplies to bring: (some shared materials will be available in class)

Embroidery floss (Wet Paint sells DMC brand floss) or sashiko thread

-A strip of fabric for stitching (this can be the width and length of your choosing, but I recommend a fabric that is heavier than a lightweight cotton). Wet Paint sells 12oz and 7oz cotton duck canvas by the yard and 12×12 pieces of 7oz. cotton canvas.

-Something to wrap your fabric around (a stick, spool/bobbin, or anything else)

-Needle appropriate for your flow or thread. Wet Paint sells packs of embroidery needles in 2 sizes.

Classes have a limited space available and some fill quickly. Decisions about whether to cancel a class or add another session are typically made one week prior to the start of a class. If a class you are interested in is full we will have a waiting list and will contact you if a space opens up. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment (fewer than 4 registrations) all registrations will be promptly refunded.

Ticket Instruction: You must choose a quantity to activate “get tickets”. To pay for a class registration with a Wet Paint gift card, please call 651-698-6431

Molly Anthony is a writer and mixed-media artist and is also the co-facilitator for the MN Visual Journal Collective (a free monthly group for artists of all mediums hosted by Wet Paint). She loves exploring art in all forms and sharing her ideas with others, but through the pandemic and family struggles she learned the importance of using those practices for self-care. In her work and her teachings, she strives to embrace imperfection, focuses on process over product and is constantly looking for new ways to be curious about the world around her. You can find her artwork on Instagram at @mkranthony and on her website TheFoundArtWalk.com.
