Cyanotype Demo with Samael Leopold-Sullivan
August 6, 2023 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
We were hoping for a bright sunny day! Looks like the weather will be rainy/cloudy all day so we’ve borrowed a UV light and will proceed indoors!
…so we can have some fun with Cyanotype outside at Wet Paint!
Samael Leopold-Sullivan will show us the process and some cool tricks. We’ll have lots of objects for you to use in making your own print…stencils, plants, film, photographic images…
Stop by and bring a friend! Just about any age will enjoy this solar activated printing try-it.
Cyanotype is an antique photographic process distinctive for producing Prussian blue monochromatic prints. Developed in the mid-19th century, cyanotype was quickly embraced as an inexpensive method for reproducing photographs, documents, maps and plans (hence the enduring architectural term “blueprint”).
Famously, it was also used by Ana Atkins and other field biologists for indexing plant specimens—the first photograms ever made! Cyanotype is a remarkably simple process that employs two inexpensive chemicals and sunlight/UV. Prints can be made on any natural fiber: paper, cotton, silk, wool, wood, etc.

Please let us know you are coming so we can plan ahead. Thanks!
