Toned Paper Sketchbook: Rediscovering Your Materials taught by Liz Carlson (Multi-Session)

Does a blank white page seem daunting? Have you tried Toned paper?! In this class you get sketching prompts, hone your multimedia skills and find out how working on toned paper can refresh your material usage and inspiration. We’ll cover a variety of themes and techniques, there’s something for everyone. Plus, homework to keep you motivated. This class is for all levels, some drawing experience is helpful.


Supply List : Start with what you already have for the media
A Toned Paper Sketchbook (required): suggested brands: Stillman & Birn Nova: Beige or Gray (I will be using the Beige, in the 8×10) OR Hahnemuhle: Cappuccino or Toned Watercolor
Basics: A Waterproof fine line pen: such as Uni-ball vision, Pigma micron or similar, Faber-Castell Pitt Pen, or Fountain pen with waterproof ink Drawing pencils (2H, HB, 6B), Erasers : such as soft vinyl, kneaded, black Factis, Masking tape or washi for clean edges, Clear ruler, a Brush for wet media.
Wet or Dry Media (Can be used both ways)suggestions to choose from: Neocolor II Water-soluble wax pastels (black and white)* Viarco Art-Graf tiles (I love the carbon black and white)* Watercolor Pencils Tombow Markers
Wet Media –Choose from these: Watercolor (tubes or pans) Gouache (opaque watercolor) (black and white)* Water Soluble graphite (crayon, pencil, tin or tile)
Dry Media (suggestions to choose from): Oil based Colored Pencils (Holbein or Faber Castell) Wax based Colored Pencils (Prismacolor, Pablo) NeoArt Wax Based Oil Pastels Faber-Castell Beeswax Crayons (Kids area) Markers (Pitt Brush, Zig Brush, Micron Brush)
* strongly suggest these monochromatic art materials
Classes have a limited space available and some fill quickly. Decisions about whether to cancel a class or add another session are typically made one week prior to the start of a class. If a class you are interested in is full we will have a waiting list and will contact you if a space opens up. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment (fewer than 4 registrations) all registrations will be promptly refunded.
