Pop-in or join all of our new monthly mixed media studio classes led by artist and instructor Shannon Brunette. This MixedMedia+ studio class is geared towards adventurous individuals eager to explore new creative terrain and work alongside other artists exploring mixed media techniques. This is more than a class; it is time to create work in a collective studio environment with other artists as well as receive facilitation and critique from the instructor. In this yearlong series, we will consider the criteria for successful experimental work. Each month we will look at contemporary artists using experimentation and mixed media as their primary artistic practice. We will consider modes of discovery and creativity that support the elements of design to our ability to take risks. Step away from your studios into this dynamic day-long workshop to focus on the theme or topic of the month, to share your work in progress and to learn from each other as well as the artists we will discuss each month. Spontaneity and improvisation will be emphasized as methods of exploration in the creation of mixed media and ephemeral works; including collage, image transfer, artists’ books, monoprints, and more.
Each MixedMedia+ session will begin and end with looking at our work with a culminating critique of our days’ work. Sketchbooks will be an important part of the process; a place for reflection, thumbnails, notes, excerpts and ideas.
In this first 3-month MixedMedia+ series we will expand our skills in monoprinting, image transfer and collage. This series is designed for beginners or continuing students. We will take time experimenting and honing in on our own unique style for each technique.
