Creating Calm Through Collage taught by Molly Anthony

Virtual Event

April 22, 2021 @ 9:30 am 12:00 pm CDT

$40

So many of us are dealing with extreme stress, anxiety, fear and sadness brought on by all we have faced over the past year.

What if, through the simple act of tearing and gluing paper, we could reclaim a sense of control as well as grant ourselves a few moments of peace? In this class, we will explore several different ways to use paper, color and your artistic practice as a way to heal, find purpose and let go of some of the pains plaguing our aching hearts. We will also learn ways to work this practice into our everyday lives so that when we need a moment of calm, no matter where we are, we can use what’s around us to create a space for peace.

Supply list:

  • A journal, sketchbook or stack or loose papers to use as substrate
  • Collage papers – decorative papers, vintage papers, maps, magazines, papers from your everyday life, handmade papers, etc… (there are some beautiful paper packs at Wet Paint with an arrangement of different decorative papers and you can choose them based by color).
  • A selection of papers in your favorite color or colors that you find calming (decorative papers and paint chips are great for this)
  • Adhesive – glue sticks, Mod Podge, gel medium (choose which works best for you, Wet Paint has a huge supply and can help you decide if you’re not sure which to try)
  • Acrylic paint
  • Brushes and/or palette knives, plastic cards to smear paint
  • Your favorite pens, pencils, markers
  • Scissors (optional)
  • A list of inspiring words will be provided before the class, but if you have a list of words, mantras or quotes you’d like to use, please bring them to class.

Artist Bio:

Molly Anthony is a writer and mixed-media artist living in Richfield, MN. For the past several years, she has worked to build a daily creative practice and find ways to incorporate art into her daily routine. In 2019 she began her third year of a 365-day art journal project. She finds inspiration during her morning walks with her dog and uses objects they find along the way as art tools and writing prompts. She developed her Found Object Creativity Kits as a way to inspire others to seek inspiration from unexpected places and one of her kits was featured in the 6th International Recycling Art Exhibition hosted by the Gachi Art Movement in South Korea in 2017. Her stories and artwork can be found on her Instagram account @mkranthony and her website TheFoundArtWalk.com.
