Zine Exchange Party hosted by Jackson Ellison
March 25, 2023 @ 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm
Multi-Session Class
Meets 2 Saturdays, March 25 + April 29 from 3:30pm-5:30pm at Wet PaintIN PERSON
What ‘s a zine?! Zines are handmade or self-published booklets, of any size or shape. Collage, prints, illustration, poetry or essays – anything that can be cut, glued or sewn onto a page! Notebook doodles, bird watercolors or even your super secret soup recipes. Zines are a fun way to connect with others about what you find interesting.
In this two session class, we will meet first to chat about our ideas and hear from local zine artists about their process. Over the next few weeks you will create your zines. Then, we will meet again to exchange the zines we’ve created and get inspired all over again!
All class fees go directly to the visiting artists -if you want to participate but are unable to afford the class fee, please contact virginia@wetpaintart.com.

Jackson Ellison (they/them) is a mixed media artist, focused on abstract landscapes and fiber art. They took their degree in sculpture from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (2016) and experimented with all things messy. Printmaking, metal casting, handwoven and dyed fabrics – you name it. They’ve been working at Wet Paint since 2019 and now they encourage customers to get their hands dirty.

allison anne (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Minneapolis (unceded Očhéthi Šakówiŋ land) with their two cats. The core of their practice is handcut paper collage — a constantly evolving exploration of experience and emotion through the reconstitution and rearranging of various printed media and ephemera. By recontexualizing images and materials, allison seeks to create complex textural, intuitive abstractions and configurations which prioritize that which is found, discarded and left behind, exploring the intersections and interactions between context, materiality and creativity.
In addition to paper collage, allison is an avid mail artist, zinemaker, publisher and graphic designer.

Xiomar Luna is a gay trans masc cartoonist and zine maker who occasionally experiments with print making and painting. Originally from South Bend, Indiana, they graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2012 with their BFA in Comic Art. Xiomar is a Minneapolis-based Aquarius, whose work primarily focuses on trans and queer identity (both fictional and their own), romance, memory, and the otherworldly. Their hair has probably been every color at this point, and they enjoy singing, even though they’re not very good at it anymore.
