Tight Watercolor, Loose Watercolor taught by Jinjer Markley

January 10 @ 10:30 am 12:30 pm

Watercolor can be used in so many different ways, to create everything from crystal clear, realistic paintings to blurry, abstract paintings. What is YOUR watercolor like? In this class, we will explore the many faces of watercolor while painting a subject in several styles. We will prepare for paintings in several ways, including stretching paper, and will practice dry and wet painting techniques.

  • Watercolor Paints.
    •  Any colors of your choice.
    • OR the 3 primaries + black:
      • Quinacridone Magenta PR122
      • Hansa Yellow Light PY3 OR Cadmium Lemon PY35
      • Phthalocyanine (Helio) Turquoise PB16 or Cobalt Blue Teal PG50
      • Any black
  • Paper:
    • Hot-press watercolor paper
    • Cold press watercolor paper, in a block
  • Watercolor brushes. Any kinds you like. If you want to get just one brush, I recommend a round, size 4,5 , 6, 7 or 8.
  • A waterproof, smooth surface for stretching watercolor paper, at least 8” x 10”. You can purchase boards specifically for this purpose. Another option is a picture frame with glass–you will tape the paper to the glass, so it must be very clean and relatively scratch-free.
  • Optional: a simple object or photograph to work from.  We will provide objects if you don’t bring your own.

In keeping with the standards of other educational settings in our area, we are asking that students and instructors wear masks during in-person classes at Wet Paint. If you are having any COVID or cold-like symptoms even if you have been vaccinated, please do not come to the class. Thanks!
