Learn the fundamentals to level up your art skills while having fun with practical, hands-on learning designed to help you gain confidence. Ignite the joy of creativity and learn to see things in a new light through artistic observation. Replenish and refocus your energy by learning positive habits to help you draw and paint better. The lessons in this class build on each other specifically targeting mark-making, perspective, tonal values, basic color application, and the differences between sketching, drawing and painting, using media such as
graphite, ink, watercolor and gouache. This course introduces attendees to the joy of field sketching.

RECOMMENDED SUPPLIES –
One water soluble pencil – Faber-Castell Graphite Aquarelle #6B A waterbrush such as Pentel Aquash Waterbrush size medium
Any kind of ink pen, non-waterproof. (For ink washes)
Watercolors – 6 half pan set or any inexpensive set.
Sketchbook – Bee Paper Aquabee #808 Super Deluxe 6×6 or Highly recommend –Canson Graduate Journal (Landscape orientation –mixed media or watercolor) or Hahnemuhle Watercolor Book-A5 Landscape orientation or A6 Landscape orientation
Classes have a limited space available and some fill quickly. Decisions about whether to cancel a class or add another session are typically made one week prior to the start of a class. If a class you are interested in is full we will have a waiting list and will contact you if a space opens up. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment (fewer than 4 registrations) all registrations will be promptly refunded.

Marty Owings studied drawing and painting at the Saint Paul Art Academy with Jim Robinson and studied under Amy Sands, Richard Abraham and Stuart Loughridge. He has a successful YouTube channel with more than 40k Subscribers (owingsart) and has published two books, “Field Sketching”, and “The Art Academy Years.” He travels frequently to field sketch the wild places of our planet. He founded the Saint Paul Underground Artists League in 2015 and is a member of the Minnesota Artist Association, Outdoor Painters of Minnesota and Minnesota Watercolor Society.
