Printing Love: Valentine’s Day Cards taught by Jinjer Markley
January 25, 2021 @ 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm CST
All ages (11 and up) No experience necessary
Printmaking is a fun, quick way to create a whole set of hand-made, unique images in one art-making session, which makes it perfect for holiday cards! Whether you are planning to hand out or send Valentine’s Day cards, or just want to get messy* making art, printmaking is a great choice. The simple printmaking technique you will learn in this class requires no special equipment and a minimum of supplies, so it’s a great introduction to printmaking, too.
*We will be using easy-to-clean ink 🙂
Supplies:
- 1-3 colors of water-soluble block printing ink (This kind).
- Water-soluble Ink retarder
- Blank cards with a smooth surface (not textured or watercolor), like this one.
- If you’re handing out cards in person (we can hope), any smooth, heavy paper works well–even unlined notecards
- Any type of small-medium paintbrush
- Re-usable items you can probably find around the house:
- You will need a piece of glass or smooth, flat plastic at least 8×10″. The glass from a frame works great.
- You will also need either a second piece of glass/plastic, or a pile of newspaper or newsprint to keep your work surface clean.
- A rag or plenty of paper towel
- An art apron or old T-shirt
- Something with a sharp tip: pin, awl, tweezers, etc.
- A spoon
- A plastic card–like a gift card or credit card
- Scissors
- Flat, textured materials to cut up:
- Lace scraps
- Sturdy textured paper
- Heavy fabric
- Plastic screen
- Feathers
- Wood veneer
- Any other sturdy, flat, textured material you don’t mind cutting up.
