In this 2 session weekend class Julie Anderson will introduce you to the Swedish tradition of the Dala horse and walk you through painting a Dala horse of your own to give as a special gift or brighten your own home.

No Painting Experience is Necessary. Suitable for most ages. A great class to take with friends or family.

*The Dala Horse included in your class fee. Please note there are 2 ticket options. Ticket with horse shipped option must be placed by 11/27 to receive your supplies in time for the class (to US domestic address). Non-US continuous contact virginia@wetpaintart.com about shipping supplies. If the horse doesn’t arrive before class, no worries!  Students may work on any flat surface during class and paint their 3D horse after class.

Ticket Instruction: You must choose a quantity to activate “get tickets”. Please register by November 24th if choosing the ticket option for your Dala to be shipped to ensure your Dala horse arrives in time for class.

One 4.5” wooden Dala horse is included in your class fee.
  Students will have access to patterns or can design decoration with their individual style. If you will be joined by family members/friends for this class, you will want to purchase extra horses or choose to paint on paper or cardboard to start.


Students can use the paint they have available (acrylic or oil). If new to painting, acrylics are recommended. Select colors that go well together and that you want to use to decorate a horse.  2 or more colors are fine. Americana Acrylic is good and inexpensive.

FOR THE BASE COAT (choose one color)

These are traditional:

Orange-Red (Americana cadmium red is a good orange red). Mixes include Americana red & yellow light  mix 3:1 or Tomato and yellow light mix 1:1

Or a Buttermilk or Light Buttermilk


Blue, green, yellow, black, and white


One each of the following:

Liner:  Size 1 or 2 (preferably a short liner) i.e. Princeton Select 1 for details

Round or Flat: Size 4, 5 or 6 for larger lines – Princeton Select is good

1 inch sponge brush or a 1 inch glaze/wash brush to paint the background. 


Palette :Sta-Wet Palette if you own one, if not, plastic plate or lid (cottage cheese or yogurt)

disposable container for water (use the cottage cheese or yogurt container)

paper towels

chalk or pencil or transfer paper

tracing paper (optional)

dry ball point pen or stylus- stylus is optional


paper- copy paper is fine


scotch or masking tape

brush soap (is optional a bar of ivory soap or bar from hotel stay will work fine)
