Neocolor II: Water Soluble Crayons taught by Liz Carlson

Virtual Event Virtual Event

October 10 @ 10:30 am 12:30 pm CDT

Tweens and Teens are welcome in this class!

What are watercolor crayons? Are they for kids? Artists? Yes! They’re for everyone!
This is a very versatile medium, perfect for the artist on the go, the visual journal keeper and the mixed media maker.
In this class you have the chance to experience this amazing Caran d’Ache product in two similar yet different styles. On a bright white sheet of paper you learn how to achieve a transparent watercolor look. Next, on toned paper you enjoy the contrast of bold, thicker layers of color against a warm brown background. Liz loves this look for her food and nature art!

Materials list (all items are available at Wet Paint)

Caran d’Ache Neocolor II 15 set , and any additional colors (sold individually) you may want. I recommend getting an extra white.

One sheet of Kraft Toned Stonehenge paper and One sheet of White Stonehenge paper (or a watercolor paper 140# or heavier, soft press or cold press (or try hot press, why not?) Sold in various sized pads too: 9×12 kraft9×12 white.
Cut your paper to workable sizes so you have enough for warmups and testing and final work!

Watercolor Brushes: Two different sizes. Suggested options if you need to buy some:
Jack Richeson Grey Matters Water media brushes Round #6 and/or #3
Princeton Snap Round Short handle brushes (golden taklon or white taklon doesn’t matter) #4 and/or #6

2H or H pencil for layout

Optional but highly recommended (and yes I know it’s expensive):

This tool will allow you to use your crayons if they break and when they become small nubs. This tool also hold the Caran d’Ache Museum Aquarelle colored pencils (also water-soluble).
Caran d’Ache plastic palette for watercolor media
