IN PERSON EVENT
The MN Visual Journal Collective meets 12 times a year on the third Monday of the month, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wet Paint. Meetings are free and open to any adult who is interested in keeping visual journals. All skill levels are encouraged from beginner to life-long journal keepers.
This month’s Topic: Using Photos & Magazine Images in Our Art Journals
Meeting Details: The first style we’ll look at will include various ways to draw on top of magazine images or photographs to add whimsy and extra details. We’ll explore ways to do this using acrylic paint pens and gel pens and will look at the work of several different artists as examples. Then we’ll talk about how to create quirky collages by cutting up images and combining them in unrealistic and inventive new ways. We’ll also talk about how to combine the two different techniques and use them together in one image.
Supplies to bring:
- A book to work in (sketchbook, art journal, junk journal, etc.)
- Magazine images (or magazines) and/or photographs
- Acrylic paint pens/markers, gel pens
- Drawing/writing pens
- Scissors
- Glue/adhesive
- Any other supplies you’d like to use (but pack light, space is limited)

A little bit about the group: We are an eclectic, curious, and welcoming adult group interested in sketching and observing our lives. Come and join in the fun! You may also wish to join the MN Visual Journal Collective Google Group or join the group on Padlet to stay informed of upcoming meetings and/or any last minute changes due to weather.
