KIDS CREATE! for Ages 2-6 with an Adult: Halloween Themed Bookbinding! taught by Ellen Ferrari
October 23 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am CDT
Wet Paint offers a series of simple, open ended art classes designed for children 2-6 years old with adult taught by early childhood art specialist, Ellen Ferrari. Each class will focus on one art making process. Ellen will use examples of artwork by iconic artists to make connections to professional artists who use these processes and introduce basic concepts, materials and terms. All materials provided (real artists’ paper, ink, paints and tools!) for several projects in each class. Register for individual classes.
Scare up a set of Halloween books with ideas from artists at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts. Learn basic bookbinding techniques and create a jack o’lantern whip stitch, a ghost M-fold and a mask stick binding you can wear. Fill your books with content using words, colors, papers and glue sticks.
Next Classes in the Series:
Explore printmaking – positive, negative, multiples – with a variety of shape stamps, stamp pads and a set of printmaking game cards. After viewing block printed artwork by Mary Azarian and Richard Stephens, incise a block and use printers’ ink, brayers and barens to print a run of six Thanksgiving cards.
Get hooked on gyutaku – Japanese fish printing. View the art of Joe Higgins, Doug Olander, and the children of Bristol Bay, Alaska and Japan. Then use newsprint, construction and tissue papers, water and brushes, and a wide variety of rubber fish – from small drum to large walleye – to print your own gyutaku.
Meet members of the pastel family through four different artworks. Create hard and soft lines and shapes with stick charcoal. Blend lots of opaque colors with paper pastels. Discover the transparency of pan pastels. Draw with pastel pencils. Artworks by Emil Bistram and Paul Klee and others will provide inspiration.
This is an IN-PERSON indoor class.
In keeping with the standards of other educational settings in our area, we are asking that students and instructors wear masks during in-person classes at Wet Paint. If you are having any COVID or cold-like symptoms even if you have been vaccinated, please do not come to the class. Thanks!
