Holiday Cloth Books & Slow Stitch taught by Molly Anthony

December 6, 2024 @ 10:00 am 1:00 pm

$50.00

IN PERSON

Holidays can be stressful and it’s important that we find ways to care for ourselves amid the planning, prepping, and celebrating. Art can be a valuable tool in our self-care process and using cloth books as art journals provides a soft, gentle place of comfort and escape.

Sometimes we need the soft feel of fabric on our fingers and the slow process of stitching to express the emotions and visualizations in our hearts and minds. Slow stitching is an unhurried, thoughtful process that not only has a beautiful outcome, but also helps to calm our frenzied minds.

We’ll begin by looking at several different structures to use as a framework for our own textile and thread journals. We won’t focus on perfectly constructing our books, but instead will allow space for wild creativity to have free reign on our messy and unique pages. Next we’ll look at several options for ways to fill those pages with fabric collage, embroidered elements and mixed-media slow stitch.

Supplies:
Please bring a selection of fabric(s) to use for the inside pages of your book (you may want to bring a yard of fabric and then cut it down once you decide on a size for your book).

You will also need something to use as a cover (a heavier fabric, such as canvas, or if you prefer a sturdier cover, you can use an old book cover with the pages removed),

fabric scissors, needles and thread.

Some extra fabric, needles, embroidery floss, and fabric scissors will be available for use in class.

Ticket Instruction: You must choose a quantity to activate “get tickets”. To pay for a class registration with a Wet Paint gift card, please call 651-698-6431

Molly Anthony is a writer and mixed-media artist and is also the co-facilitator for the MN Visual Journal Collective (a free monthly group for artists of all mediums hosted by Wet Paint). She loves exploring art in all forms and sharing her ideas with others, but through the pandemic and family struggles she learned the importance of using those practices for self-care. In her work and her teachings, she strives to embrace imperfection, focuses on process over product and is constantly looking for new ways to be curious about the world around her.
