Explorations into Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act – A Way of Being taught by Tara Tieso
April 5, 2024 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Multi-Session Class
Meets via Zoom on 4 Fridays, April 5-26 Central TimeA Wet Paint Book Club favorite, Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act – A Way of Being, offers a unique opportunity to explore creativity as more than just an artistic process. Rubin, a renowned music producer who’s worked with the likes of Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Adele, Jay-Z, and Tom Petty, has written a volume that is at once an idea book, an investigative book, an affirmation book, a work book, and a resource we can apply to any part of our lives where we’d like to access greater creativity.
We’ll use the book to explore how we can best live into a creative process unique to us – by asking questions, observing our world, considering the role of our feelings as guideposts, balancing self-doubt with inspiration, and experimenting with new perspectives (as well as considering common niggling thoughts like, Do deadlines help? Why am I so distracted? Does everyone feel this way???).
In class we’ll actively experiment with creative ideas; discuss what comes up in our explorations; and between classes, give some of the book’s ideas a try in our real lives.
No art experience needed!

Supplies – a copy of the book The Creative Act – A Way of Being by Rick Rubin, a sketchbook or journal for experimentation, and any favorite media you’d like to use in the process.
