Embroidered Mandalas taught by Molly Anthony

March 1 @ 10:00 am 1:00 pm

$50.00

IN PERSON

Mandalas are a powerful artistic form used in meditation and healing practices. Using a process of hand-stitching with thread and fabric, we are going to learn ways to use this process not only to slow down, but also to deeply connect with our work. The finished pieces will also serve as a tactile experience, allowing us to read them with our fingers as well as our eyes. We’ll also work to embrace the “messy” part of our lives represented by imperfect stitching and loose threads on torn fabric. The completed pieces will be packed with mesmerizing, tactile beauty as well as deep personal meaning. This practice is an opportunity to release perfection and spend time enjoying the process of creating, healing and letting go.

Supplies (some fabric scraps, needles and thread will be available for class use):

Any fabric scraps, yarn or adornments (buttons, beads, etc.) you’d like to use

An embroidery hoop (8” or 10” is recommended, if you want to work small, bring a couple)

A piece of background fabric that will fit inside your hoop (allow for extra room to finish your hoop)

A piece of felt large enough to cover the back of your hoop

Needle and embroidery floss

Sewing scissors

Classes have a limited space available and some fill quickly. Decisions about whether to cancel a class or add another session are typically made one week prior to the start of a class. If a class you are interested in is full we will have a waiting list and will contact you if a space opens up. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment (fewer than 4 registrations) all registrations will be promptly refunded.

Molly Anthony is a writer and mixed-media artist and is also the co-facilitator for the MN Visual Journal Collective (a free monthly group for artists of all mediums hosted by Wet Paint). She loves exploring art in all forms and sharing her ideas with others, but through the pandemic and family struggles she learned the importance of using those practices for self-care. In her work and her teachings, she strives to embrace imperfection, focuses on process over product and is constantly looking for new ways to be curious about the world around her. You can find her artwork on Instagram at @mkranthony and on her website TheFoundArtWalk.com.
