Drawing Hands and Feet taught by Suzann Beck

April 9 @ 10:00 am 5:00 pm

Believe it or not, drawing hands and feet accurately can be as important to a portrait as a face! Everyone’s hands are incredibly different and both hands and feet can add to an artwork’s gesture and expression. And let’s face it, nobody is comfortable looking at a drawing where the hands and feet don’t look right. This class will teach you:

• Anatomical construction.

• Proportional relationships to the body and face.

• How to simplify, and then divide and conquer!

Both the morning and afternoon sessions will include demos covering the principles of drawing and hands-on experience drawing from sculptor’s casts and a live model.

Ages 14 and up. Drawing experience suggested but not required. Class will break for an hour midway, please bring a lunch.

About the artist: Whether painting a commissioned portrait, a figurative piece, or a “portrait” of a single rose, Suzann has the unique ability to capture the essence and spirit of a subject and combine it with masterful likeness. Her inspiration and passion comes from the classical old masters, and she is particularly influenced by the Russian painters of the 19th century. Intrigued and motivated by the depth and craft of masterworks hundreds of years old, Suzann works to understand classical methods and disciplines and leverage them with contemporary practices and sensibilities to create representational realism. Suzann Beck holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Moorhead State University, Moorhead MN, and studied portraiture with atelier-trained painter Judith Anthony, Plymouth, MN, and classical glazing technique portraiture with Jeffery Hurinenko, St. Paul, MN. Suzann serves as the Minnesota Ambassador for the Portrait Society of America, and teaches portrait painting and drawing classes in her Northeast Minneapolis studio and the Paramount Center for the Visual Arts, St. Cloud, MN. http://www.mnartists.org/suzannbeck
