Comics 101 taught by Xiomar Luna

July 13 @ 2:00 pm 5:00 pm

Adults and Teens 14 and up are welcome in this class.

Do you want to make a comic? Are you curious about what exactly goes into this tradition of telling stories through sequential, simplified and/ or exaggerated drawings? Join cartoonist, Xiomar Luna to learn all the basics you’ll need to get started!

In this class, we will go over page and image composition, “panel-flow”, terminology, tools/ techniques that are commonplace in the modern comics world, and touch on some comics theory like ‘Understanding Comics’ by Scott McCloud. You will also get the chance to do some drawing exercises on your own and together as a group. Some drawing materials will be provided, but please bring your own as well if you can. No experience or drawing skills required (yes, I mean it).

Next class with Xiomar Luna : Character Design Saturday, September 7th from 2-5pm

Xiomar Luna is a cartoonist and zine maker originally from Indiana, who now calls Minneapolis home. They graduated with their BFA in comic art from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2012, and were half of the team behind the queer roller derby comic, “Collision Course”. While they have largely spent recent years making autobiographical comics, Xiomar is excited to be starting work on some new fictional comics at the intersections of horror, romance, and science fiction.”
