Psst…. we’ve started an art book club at Wet Paint.

Wish you read more about art? Interested in talking about Creativity? Artists? Art movements? The artistic process? Art concepts?

Read the selection and come discuss. Haven’t read the book? Come anyway and discover!

Facilitated by your most excellent host, Tara Tieso; teaching artist and active member of the Twin Cities arts community

This Month’s Book: Guerrilla Girls: The Art of Behaving Badly by Guerrilla Girls.

From the cover –

Don’t let museums reduce art to the small number of artists who have won a popularity contest among big-time dealers, curators and collectors. If museums don’t show art as DIVERSE as the cultures they claim to represent, TELL THEM they’re not showing the history of art, they are just preserving the history of WEALTH & POWER

Who are The Guerrilla Girls?

Arts activists who use stealth (hence the gorilla masks) to bring to light the disparities in politics, art and culture by revealing the understory, the subtext, the overlooked, and the downright unfair. In hundreds of projects (posters, actions, books, videos, stickers) all over the world and interventions and exhibitions at museums, including a 2015 projection on the façade of the Whitney Museum about income inequality and the super rich hijacking art, they bring a sharp focus to art as a power of the people. Their retrospectives in Bilbao and Madrid, and their US traveling exhibition, Guerrilla Girls: Not Ready To Make Nice, have attracted thousands. Join us for a discussion of this amazing book chronicling their mission, their 35th anniversary of arts activism and their work world-wide. And bonus! The book includes a punch-out gorilla mask!
