IN PERSON

What does it mean to be an abstract artist? What is the point and purpose of abstraction? Where did it start and where is it today?

This class will demonstrate a large variety opinions on abstraction, starting with the pioneers such as Hilma af Klimt and Paul Klee and taking us through the new attitudes and approaches that are emerging today as influenced by digital design, generative, street art, and high concept.

We will discuss original lesson plans as used at the Bauhaus, the Basel School of Design, and by color theorist and artist Joseph Albers. The goal of this course is to offer you a broad and powerful set of tools for you to develop more sophistication in your journey understanding and creating with abstract expressionism. Course is 4 hours in length and includes demonstrations and hands on work with casein and gel plate printing.
