Get in shape for the outdoor sketching season! Whether you’ve always wanted to try “urban sketching” or just want to hone your skills, here is a suite of classes designed to get you out there with more confidence.

Urban sketching and plein air drawing are ways to experience the world from a different perspective. It is an opportunity to sit quietly, breathe and see. There are Urban Sketching communities worldwide: local groups, international groups, Facebook groups, etc.

“In this twentieth century, to stop rushing around, to sit quietly on the grass, to switch off the world and come back to the earth, to allow the eye to see … is an unforgettable experience…”   Frederick Franck. The Zen of Seeing

Part 1: Drawing Calisthenics

Saturday, May 2nd from 10-1pm (plus sketch-out Sunday, 2-4pm)

FEE: $80  Includes 1 class and one sketch-out

In Part 1:Drawing Calisthenics we’ll focus on flexing and training our drawing “muscles” through exercises like contour drawing (to help us in the practice of seeing) , as well as more structured drawing (to help us to sight and render things proportionally).

This Saturday morning session includes an additional optional practice session on-site Sunday afternoon from 2-4pm.

Part 2: Watercolor as Secondary Medium

Sunday, May 3rd from 10-1pm (plus sketch-out Sunday, 2-4pm)

FEE:  $80 Includes 1 class and one sketch-out

In Part 2: Watercolor as Secondary Medium we’ll focus on flexing and training our watercolor “muscles”. We will explore how watercolor can enhance a drawing.  Exercises include using limited palette, full palette, minimum color, going overboard, so we can find the right balance for our drawing and subject.

This Sunday morning session includes an additional optional practice session on-site Sunday afternoon from 2-4pm.
