Rediscover your city and learn how to sketch the urban space, all while having fun! In this 4 week class, Cris will guide you to deepen your skill and enjoyment of drawing & water media techniques while seeing the city with the eyes of an “andarilho,” a word in Portuguese meaning wanderer.
This workshop is designed for participants with intermediate or advanced drawing skills.
Wondering about your level? If you have had basic drawing you will be fine. This class isn’t really designed to be a basic ‘how to draw’ from ground up per se, but drawing instruction comes into play throughout with demos and working one on one while out on location. You will learn about drawing and water media techniques, materials, composition etc. and get experience/gain confidence under a patient and generous teachers guidance.
Materials list: Specific list of materials will be sent to registrants. Expect to bring a few basic tubes of watercolor, 2 watercolor brushes, watercolor sketchbook, a few simple drawing supplies
My work investigates our disposition to project into organized spaces to create meaning by experiencing it. I strive to provide an abundance of paths to weave our intricate world.
I capture the city’s paradox: flow, transportation, migration, displacement, abandonment, vacancy, transformation, chaos, demolition, speculation, gentrification. The imagery is intended to encourage empathy with those who indwell the urban landscape.
Drawing on site is my way to try to understand the world. How we sense the environment will influence our interactions. Becoming aware of our surroundings can be transformative
