Tuesday, February 6th from 11am-2pm (with a lunchbreak for the Indigo to dry)
Shibori is an ancient Japanese technique that uses various resists (stitches, clamping, binding, etc)to prevent the indigo from penetrating the fabric or paper, producing white designs on a blue background. Shibori was the method used to create surface patterns on cloth before printing was discovered.
In our class we’ll be using some of these techniques on folded papers and then dipping our pieces into an indigo vat. After unbundling our papers and allowing them to dry, we’ll be using them to make unique, one of a kind greeting cards or wall hangings.
Jean is a former Spanish teacher turned full time fiber artist. She works with wet felting, natural dyes and eco printing, hand stitching, and creating and sewing garments and home goods.
