Calligraphy is bursting from the age of quills and Ye Olde Times and into the 21st century, in so many exciting new forms. You’ve seen it on wedding invites, art, logos, planners, and social media – and now you can learn how to do it on your own. Building on your basic understanding of cursive, Jessica will talk through beginning brush calligraphy, covering a brief introduction of calligraphy, supplies, the anatomy of a letter, the basic strokes of the alphabet, and help you begin to identify your own personal style. You’ll leave with some technical knowledge, practice sheets, and a list of “next step” resources to continue honing your skills after the workshop. Be on the lookout for a pre-survey a week before the workshop!
You will need two sizes (one smaller and one a bit bigger) of brush tipped pens:
-Smaller – Pentel Sign Touch brush pen OR Tombow Fudenosuke (dark blue body)
-Bigger – Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen (Dual brush tipped black and gray) or Tombow Dual Brush Pen
Grid paper and Crayola type markers will be provided for use in class but if you’d like to buy some for practicing at home, Jessica recommends: Rhodia Grid Pads (or something similar) and Crayola broad tip marker
Jessica will provide printouts and handouts (practice alphabets, grids, resource (blogs) lists)
